On last Tuesday, the National Urban League, BP America, and the Urban League of Greater New Orleans hosted the Gulf Coast Economic Empowerment Tour in New Orleans, Louisiana.

With $10 billion worth of public and private projects up for grabs to rebuild New Orleans and the Gulf Coast region more than two years after Hurricane Katrina devastated the area, the NUL and BP America have linked their efforts to develop the Gulf Coast Economic Empowerment Program to help small and minority-owned businesses become part of the rebuilding process.

The program, developed with a $3.2 million grant from the BP Foundation, offers training and resource support that will enable these businesses to pursue and secure contracting opportunities and resources in New Orleans and along the Gulf Coast in the housing and construction industry sectors.
